你有沒有聽過白人同事在聊天時常用到的兩個英語片語－『take it to the chin』、『take something with a pinch of salt』！？會不會覺得很奇怪，一會是下巴（chin）、一會是鹽（salt），又不是打球、也不是討論廚藝，講這幹嘛？

『take it to the chin』有沒有一種豪氣萬千、概括承受打擊的感覺？對啊，其實這就是指一個人能夠承受冷言冷語或接受批評的氣度，另一方面卻不會惡意用語言去中傷攻擊別人。

例如說：He took it to the chin with all the criticism he received from job interviews.

『take something with a pinch of salt』指的可不是炒菜做飯喔，其實這指的是你並不是完全相信另一個人所說的話，你覺得那一個人講的話並非全都是真的。

例如說：I take what he says with a pinch of salt as he always exaggerates.
